Encontros na Fronteira #09 Catherine Dixon

No dia 15 de fevereiro o Fronteira recebeu Catherine Dixon, designer, escritora e professora. Criou a premiada série “Great Ideas” para a Penguin e é colaboradora regular da Eye Magazine. Coautora com Phil Baines do livro “Signs: lettering in the environment”, é PhD e palestrante regular da Central Saint Martins em Londres. Organiza eventos como ‘Letterpress: Forward Thinking na St Bride Library’ e pesquisa linguagens formais de letras e tipos. Co-curadoria do arquivo fotográfico Central Lettering Record, esta há um ano no Brasil como Professora Convidada na USP. As palavras são centrais no seu trabalho e a tipografia sua paixão.

“O Encontro na Fronteira é uma oportunidade para refletir aquilo que absorvi ‘tipograficamente’ no Brasil. Para mim enquanto designer britânica ‘Typography’, nada tem a ver com ‘tipografia’.” E assim se lança uma discussão…

Catherine Dixon is a designer, writer and teacher. She works primarily with the award-winning series “Great Ideas” for Penguin being a regular contributor of Eye Magazine. Coauthor with Phil Baines’s book “Signs:lettering in the environment” is a regular lecturer and PhD from Central Saint Martins in London. Organizes events such as ‘letterpress: Forward Thinking’ at the St Bride Library and researches formal languages and types of letters. Co-curated the CentralLettering Record photographic archive and is being for a year in Brazil as a Visiting Professor at USP. Words are central in his work and typography is her passion.

“To meet at Fronteira is an opportunity to reflect on what I have absorbed typographically in Brazil. for me as a British designer ‘typography’, is not the same thing at all as ‘tipografia’.” And so begins a discussion…
